Surge Transportation uses WeatherOptics to improve freight

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. and NEW YORK, June 29, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Surge transmissiona leading freight brokerage company, today announced a new partnership with WeatherOpticsa leading weather intelligence platform, to provide better visibility and road hazard information to their brokerage operations.

WeatherOptics summarizes the impact of weather conditions to a simple risk score or timeframe that makes it easy for businesses to understand how upcoming weather conditions will affect their key operations. The company works with some of the largest shippers and supply chain software companies in North America to help predict and mitigate issues such as trucking delays, warehouse disruptions and changes in demand for consumers.

Surge provides critical truckload capacity for large shippers during tough times when the routing guide fails. Their model is designed to secure truckload capacity in constrained markets with a transparent pricing model.

The new partnership will allow Surge to access granular weather information via the new WeatherOptics Insight Portal, designed specifically for freight and supply chain. In order to understand potential trucking delays and overall load risk, Surge will leverage the Impact Risk Scores for key locations, as well as StraightRoad for route-based information, including weather-adjusted estimated arrival times and road hazard forecasts.

“The WeatherOptics Insight Portal was developed for any transportation company to receive insights tailored to their operations, providing powerful, customizable insights to the end user,” said WeatherOptics CEO and Co-Founder. Scott Pecoriello. “We’re excited that Surge is seeing value on the brokerage side and enabling better visibility and decision-making around pricing and booking charges.”

“We’ve always done a good job of paying attention to weather hazards at origin and destination, but not en route. WeatherOptics gave us full visibility of all potential hazards along the route,” said Omar Singh, president of Surge Transportation. “WeatherOptics helps us make sure our drivers don’t put themselves at risk unnecessarily and allows our customers to understand what’s going on with their freight in real time.”

This news comes after WeatherOptics announced in May a new partnership with Descartes Macropoint, allowing thousands of freight and 3PL brokers to access their Impact Risk Scores.

About Surge

Surge Transportation provides critical transportation capacity to Fortune 1000 shippers at the enterprise level during difficult times when the routing guide fails. Surge recognizes that there is a fundamental problem with the route guidance strategy in that the forecast is linear, but the demand is not. The result is that most of the time, in day-to-day execution, either shippers don’t have enough trucks or carriers don’t have enough loads. Surge’s solution is to provide the industry’s best real-time pricing engine, backed by its network of 50,000 carriers, to match shippers to capacity when it’s needed most.
